Thin Mints

My next Baby Step will be portion control with my snacks. I have four boxes of Thin Mints and I will make them last for several months. Last year, I went through one box very slowly, just two cookies a day! And I know that I can do it again.

I do have some very special Thin Mints. A few weeks ago, one of my former co-workers e-mailed me, asking where she could get the “good” Thin Mints. I have not had the good ones in a few years. See, the Girl Scouts get their cookies from two bakeries, and the Little Brownie Bakers’ Thin Mints are by far the best. Sadly, our area uses the other bakery.

My co-worker just had a baby a few months ago, so I figured I would help her out and find the good ones. And I wanted them for myself. I tracked them down to Lancaster County, about an hour or so from my home. My husband, J,  just happened to be going on a trip to Hershey, so I asked him to pick up a few boxes.

To keep a long story form getting any longer, I just received six boxes in the mail from a cookie sale coordinator who also works in a grocery store. And I owe her some money for shipping.

Four boxes for me, two boxes for my co-worker. And I hope that they last a very, very long time.

Snow Day!

I was really hoping to exercise in a big way today! After all, the snowicane promised to offer hours of shoveling opportunities. So, I took last night off from exercising. And Wednesday night as well.

Early this afternoon, I told my husband not to worry about shoveling, that I had it covered. I went out, only to be finished in about 20 minutes! I am about half an hour in exercise debt to myself (figuring my baby steps should be at least 15 minutes a day), so I am going to have to do something intense with the Wii tonight. Or, I need to just let it go, and stay on track from here on out. We shall see.

A Wii Step

So far, so good. In the past, I have gone to the gym and forced myself to stay there for a long time, mostly using the elliptical and then lifting weights. I lose interest after two weeks or so, and that’s the end of that. My gym visits usually coincided with joining Weight Watchers (which I have done many times), but the WW journey to is one to be shared another day.

So, my goal has been to do something every day. Yesterday, I spent some quality time on Wii Sports. Like, 15 minutes of quality time. I beat the game in a best of five tennis match. I think that you always compete with imaginary Miis that are just below your ability level, but I still feel good winning in tennis.

…. Tennis flashback……

As a senior in high school, I treated myself to some tennis lessons. I was terrible. At the end of the course, the others in the class were told they should go to competitive or intermediate classes. I was told to keep practicing, that someday I would be ready for advanced beginners.

… end flashback…

I would have played more tennis, but I got worried that I was exercising my right arm too much and ignoring my left arm. I could have played left-handed, but then I would have lost to the Wii Miis, and I think that the resulting disappointment would have soured me to tennis all together. So, I moved on to boxing, where I knocked a Mii out at the end of the third round, and exercised that right arm some more with bowling. I am not an athlete by any means, but I rock at Wii Sports (if I stay away from golf and baseball).

Today, I went to the gym. My baby step was getting there. I spent almost 15 minutes on the elliptical, then went home.

Baby Steps

Hello, Reader, and thank you for joining me on my journey.  If you choose to stay with me, know that the path will likely be crooked and crazy, but, on the advice of Dr. Leo Marvin from What About Bob?, in his ground-breaking book Baby Steps, I will take life one small step at a time.

I would like to accomplish great things. I want to have a child or two. As I continue through this process, (I have been trying for about 8 months with one early loss), I hope to lose some weight (well over 100 pounds).

While I will do all I can to have a child, the ultimate result is in God’s hands. The weight loss is in mine. So, right now, I will focus most of my Baby Steps on losing the weight. The first Baby Step is to do SOMETHING every day, in terms of exercise. Tomorrow will be difficult because of a busy day, but I will find at least 15 minutes to devote to physical activity, and will report back.

Thank you for taking the time to read my first blog entry. I hope that you will stay with me.
